Lunch Buddies

Interested in spending some time with AHES students who might need an extra set of ears from a supportive adult? Join Dave Downey as he schedules one Wednesday a month for the Lunch Buddies program.

School lunches run from about 10:50am to 12:50pm.  Volunteers can come for the whole time, or just part of the time, and sit with students to talk with them while they eat.

April’s date is Wednesday, April 18.  Please join us if you can!

Spring Talent Show

Calling all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders…  Friday, April 27 is your night to take the stage and share your talent with the Agnor-Hurt Community!

Flyers went home last week with more information. Registration forms are available here.

Registration forms are due by Wednesday, April 11th.

All music must be submitted to the Talent Show committee for approval by Friday, April 13th

There will be two dress rehearsals – Wednesday, April 18th and Thursday, April 26th from 2:30pm-4:30pm.  These are MANDATORY.

The show is: Friday, April 27th at 6:30pm and open to all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders

All are encouraged to attend and support the performers!

We need a few adult volunteers to  help with the dress rehearsals and the night of the show, mainly to keep an eye on the kids and getting equipment on and off the stage.

Spring Book Fair 2018

The Spring Book Fair is approaching!  This is a fun week for the kids, and a great fundraiser!  Students and parents have the opportunity to purchase books (and a few other items) from the Book Fair, and all of the money raised goes to the school library, music, and art programs.

We need a small army of volunteers for this, so please consider signing up for a couple of shifts here.  Thank you!

On sale days, you may choose to send your child to school with money to purchase a book.  (They will bring home a wish list on Monday or Tuesday.). We can take cash or checks from the students.  Parents are also welcome to shop during sales hours;  we can take credit cards from parents, but not from students.

No one is obligated to buy anything!  All money that we make from the Book Fair is divided evenly between the library, art, and music programs at Agnor-Hurt.

Kindergarten Registration – March 21

Kindergarten Registration is an opportunity for parents to receive assistance with the enrollment process, present required documentation, and learn more about our kindergarten program.

Prior to March 21, we encourage parents to complete the online registration form.

On March 21, parents may visit the school their child will attend to provide required documentation, including their child’s original birth certificate, school entrance health form, and two proofs of residency. (Acceptable proofs of residency most commonly include a mortgage or lease agreement and a paid Albemarle County tax receipt or utility bill.)

Unable to attend Kindergarten Registration on March 21?
If parents are unable to attend Kindergarten Registration on March 21, they should complete the online registration form and then contact the school their child will attend to arrange a time to provide the required documentation.

Skate Night Thank You

Join us for our 2nd skate night! Mark you calendars for Friday Feb. 23rd from        6:00pm-8:00pm when ALL students can come out and learn to skate or show off your skating skills.  Tickets sold night of event $4 at the door.  The PE department can provide a limited number of skates and safety equipment on a first come first served basis.  Bringing your own equipment will get you out on the floor faster!

Link your Kroger Card

One of our biggest fundraisers is the Kroger card!  Please register your Kroger card to link it with Agnor-Hurt.  Every time you shop at Kroger, they will make a donation, and it won’t cost you a thing!  You need to register your card today.  Below are the steps on how you can link your card:

  1.  Go to

  3. Under Community Rewards search for Agnor-Hurt Elementary School PTO and link your account.

Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and friends can also link their cards to Agnor-Hurt Elementary School.

January Staff Spotlight !

Ms. Stollings

Our Littlest students in our Bright Stars program at Agnor-Hurt Elementary are so very lucky to have Debbie Stollings as their teacher.  Ms.  Stollings has been teaching for 28 years.  Her favorite color is green and her favorite snacks are something salty.  Her favorite restaurants are Timberwood and Tip Top and she likes to relax at Serenity Nails & Spa!

Fun Fact about Ms. Stollings, on her mother’s side they are descendants of Pocahontas, and on her father’s side she is only 2nd generation American.


Girls & Women in Sports Night

Girls, bring your mom, your aunt, your grandma and your friends, and enjoy an evening of fun and movement in the gym!

February 7 marks the 32nd annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day!  The 2018 theme is “Play Fair, Play IX.”  For more than three decades, National Girls & Women in Sports Day has empowered women and girls to get moving, embrace physical activity and push past their limits.  The courage, confidence, and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls need to become the strong leaders of tomorrow.

Here at Agnor-Hurt, we want to celebrate the achievements that all of our girls, their mothers, aunts, grandmothers and special friends have made.  Come on out for an evening of fun active events planned just for you!

School Board Passes Redistricting Plan

On January 11, the School Board voted to approve the redistricting plan recommended by Superintendent Pam Moran.  Some students from Agnor-Hurt will be moved to Woodbrook next year;  some students from Greer will be moved to Agnor-Hurt.

Speak Up 2017

Albemarle County Schools (ACS) is participating in Speak Up 2017 from October 16th through January 19th. This survey provides a way for students, parents and educators to share their views on technology and learning with ACS.Your input informs decisions about technology, as well as contributes to the national dialogue about educational technology. Questions or concerns can be directed to the Learning Technology Team at Follow these instructions to take the survey:

  3. Select your group (Parents or Educators).
  4. Search for your school by entering your zip code or by selecting Virginia and selecting your school’s name from the list.

Golden Apple Awards

Is there an outstanding teacher you’d like to recognize and nominate for this award? Submission deadline is February 1. One winner will be selected from each school, and is eligible to receive a $1,000 Golden Apple Grant. Grants are awarded to eight candidates: 3 elementary, 2 middle, and 2 high school candidates, and 1 from the schools that are members of the VAIS. The grant award is used for classroom materials or to support the recipient’s continued professional development. Golden Apple Award recipients will be announced in May. Fall PTO Update

Wondering what the PTO does with all of the money we raise and volunteers we recruit?  Here’s a brief rundown of things the PTO has accomplished or been involved with so far this year:

  • purchased Volta Inclusive Spinner on playground
  • provided staff breakfasts and snacks on teacher workdays
  • stuffed back to school packets
  • hosted Open House activities, Kindergarten Popsicle Party and the Welcome Back Picnic
  • purchased umbrellas for our drop off/pick up staff
  • gave money to support the Jamestown Field Trip
  • bought classroom supplies for teachers
  • purchased clothing for changes as needed in school
  • helped with International Night
  • organized the Fall Festival
  • planted flowers around the school, and
  • supported after school programs and the Day of Caring.

Staff Spotlight !

Mr.  Barron

Our own Mr. Barron has been a teacher for 21 years.  He brings a love of music to all the kids and families at Agnor-Hurt from playing the piano or ukulele in the hallways to the wonderful music concerts we get to enjoy throughout the year. Here are some things you many not know about Mr. Barron. He enjoys Bonefish Grill and Chipotle and snacking on almonds and pistachios. His favorite color is purple and he loves coffee!  Back in the 80’s, Mr. Barron says he had long hair past his shoulders!
