All parents and grandparents are invited to join us for the April PTO meeting. It will take place on Tuesday, April 11 from 6:15-6:45pm. There is a music concert at 7:00; if your children are performing, you will still be able to go to the concert.
Minutes from the last PTO meeting are available here.
We are currently planning for next year, and would love to have volunteers for PTO Board positions as well as other activities (Fall Festival, Playground Committee, International Night, Book Fair, etc.). If you can’t make it to the meeting but want to volunteer for next year, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks!
A spring camping trip is taking place May 19-21 at Loft Mountain Campground in Shenandoah National Park. Call Dave Downey 434-296-7253 for details and to sign up. If we have enough people, we’ll reserve a group camping site.
A few details: This is not a school-sponsored trip. Sign up if you’d like to come, and enjoy spending a weekend of camping, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors with other Agnor-Hurt families. You will be responsible for bringing your own camping gear (including tent) and food.
The final session of after-school volleyball begins right after spring break! The program starts April 11 and runs thru May 16th on Tuesdays. The fee is $50 for 6 weeks, and you can register online at TIPSvolleyball.com OR pick up a registration form in the school office.
It is the last session of the school year. But there are camps running throughout the summer; check those dates online at TIPSvolleyball.com
Calling all 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders!
Friday, April 28th at 6:30pm is your night to take the stage and share your talent with our Agnor Hurt community.
Here is what you need to know:
- Registration forms are due by Wednesday, April 12th. We apologize, but no late registrations will be accepted.
- Each act has a time limit of 3 minutes.
- Each student may participate in a maximum of two acts – 1 solo & 1 group OR 2 groups (Two solo acts will not be allowed)

Music must be age appropriate (language and content) for all audiences.
- For all singers, we want to hear your beautiful voices. No lip-syncing. Please submit a karaoke version of your song. Instrumental versions of most songs can be found on ITunes.
- There will be two dress rehearsals – Wednesday, April 19th and Thursday, April 27th from 2:30pm-4:30pm. These are MANDATORY. Please come PREPARED and ready to perform.
- Need this information in Spanish? Click here for information and here for registration form.
5th graders: We are looking for a few outgoing kids to help “emcee” the event. Interested? Please indicate you’d like to emcee by completing a registration form.
Need ideas for an act? Here are a few: poets, actors in skits, singers, comedians, cup stacking, dancing – be creative and have fun! See Ms. McCracken if you need help with an idea.
Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in International Night! It was a wonderful evening, and we even got some news coverage! Here are some links:
Friday, March 24, 6:30pm
Agnor-Hurt’s International Night extravaganza is an evening of dance that showcases various dances that our Agnor-Hurt students have learned in their rhythms unit. The evening demonstrates the spirit of dance from around the world and the various cultures that attend our school. The evening will be a joyful time performing dances from other countries as well as a few surprises along the way!
A cultural cuisine pot-luck dinner will round out this community- building event. (Please plan to bring a dish to share.)
It is an evening for our entire Agnor-Hurt family! The event is one of our most popular events for the year. To our Agnor-Hurt students, if you would like to participate in the event, see one of the PE teachers for a permission form, or call the school for further details (973-5211). We hope to see all of you here on Friday evening!
It’s almost Book Fair time again! Planning has begun, and we need YOUR help! Parent (or grandparent) volunteers are needed to help the Book Fair run smoothly. Please sign up for a shift (or two, or three) on our Sign Up Genius.
The Book Fair runs April 17-21, with Monday and Tuesday being preview days (the kids come to look, but no sales). Wednesday through Friday we will be open for sales. Note: The Book Fair will close at 11am on Friday.
We are excited to announce that there will be a Talent Show in the spring for any 3rd-5th graders who wish to participate! Details will be forthcoming, but in the meantime we need parent volunteers to help out. We have one parent coordinating and several teachers on board. In order for the event to move forward and to be a success, we are looking for a co-coordinator as well as 2-3 more parents to help with planning. We will also need additional help the night of the event!
If you can donate a little of your time to this fun event, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please mark your calendar for our March PTO meeting – Tuesday, March 14 from 6:30-7:30pm in the school library. Please join us to hear the latest news and offer your suggestions!
February’s meeting minutes are available here.
Between now and April 14, we will be holding the spring Box Tops contest. The class that collects the most Box Tops will win a popsicle party! During this time, if you wish to receive credit for Box Tops through the Bonus App or eBox Tops, please e-mail Jen with the amount and teacher’s name.
Note: We collect Box Tops all year long, even through the summer! But to count for the contest, they must be turned in to your child’s teacher by April 14. Thanks!
Attention all 3rd-5th graders… If you enjoy dancing, then you are invited to attend the fourth annual Dance Battle meet up! The afternoon will involve fun and engaging dance activities for everyone. Students who are interested, see one of the PE teachers for permission forms.
When: Friday, March 3
Where: Greer Elementary School
All 4th grade, 5th grade, and Thornton/Craft students will begin their Recorder Unit the week of February 27. Our unit will run through to April 28.
Please remind your child to bring her/his recorder to every music class during our Recorder Unit. A perfect home for your child’s recorder will be in your child’s backpack. 🙂 Please make sure the recorder case is marked with your child’s name.
All students who ordered new recorders though our school will receive them in their music classes the week of February 27.
This year’s Winter Skate Night will take place on Friday, February 17th from 6:30-8:00. Come lace up your roller-blades and join us again for a night of good old fashioned fun. We have all the equipment you will need, but feel free to bring your own equipment, especially your helmet!!! As always there will be raffle prizes, great music, popcorn, and fun! We hope you can join us for this wonderful community event!
Have you noticed all the trash along Berkmar Drive? We are organizing a clean-up on February 20 from 8:00-10:00am. Bring your gloves and help us give our kids a cleaner ride to school! Please call or e-mail Kim (296-6094 or email@example.com) if you can help out, so that we know how many to expect. Even if you can only help for half an hour, we’d appreciate your help! Because we will be working near the road, volunteers should be 18 years or older. Thanks!
The February PTO meeting will be on Tuesday, February 21, from 6:15-6:45pm. (This is a change.) The meeting will take place before the music concert, so parents attending the concert will be able to attend both events. We hope you will join us!
