Planning for Next Year!

All-Call for Ideas and Volunteers

Although we are still in full-swing with school year activities, the PTO is also looking ahead to next year.  It’s not too early to start making plans for Fall Festival!  Do you know of a great food truck that we should reserve in advance?  Do you own a business and want to make a donation?  Have an idea for new games?  Want to help run the silent auction?

And now is a great time to think about new projects.  We had such a great time working on the staff lounge;  do you have ideas for other spaces at our school that can use an update?  Is there another project that you’d love to see to benefit our teachers or students?

The PTO is looking for a new Communication Chair, Volunteer Coordinator, Parent Council Representative, and ESOL Representative for the 2018-2019 school year.  We are also looking for someone to help update/upgrade the PTO website.  Can you help with one of those roles?

Please send in your ideas to agnorhurtpto@gmail.com, and feel free to attend a PTO meeting if you want to ask questions or hear other ideas.  The next meeting is Tuesday, April 24 at 7:00pm.

Spring Book Fair 2018

The Spring Book Fair is approaching!  This is a fun week for the kids, and a great fundraiser!  Students and parents have the opportunity to purchase books (and a few other items) from the Book Fair, and all of the money raised goes to the school library, music, and art programs.

We need a small army of volunteers for this, so please consider signing up for a couple of shifts here.  Thank you!

Book Fair Schedule:
Monday, April 16. 8:00-2:30pm  Previews Only
Tuesday, April 17.  8:00-2:30pm. Previews Only
6:00-8:00pm. Open for Sales
Wednesday, April 18. 8:15-2:00pm. Open for Sales
Thursday, April 19. 8:15-2:00pm. Open for Sales
Friday, April 20. 8:00-11:00am. Open for Sales.  Please note 11am closing on Friday!
Friday, April 20. 11:00-1:00pm. Pack Up (a few volunteers needed)

On sale days, you may choose to send your child to school with money to purchase a book.  (They will bring home a wish list on Monday or Tuesday.). We can take cash or checks from the students.  Parents are also welcome to shop during sales hours;  we can take credit cards from parents, but not from students.

No one is obligated to buy anything!  All money that we make from the Book Fair is divided evenly between the library, art, and music programs at Agnor-Hurt.

Fall Festival is Coming!

Although it seems that school just started, Fall Festival is right around the corner!  The event is on Saturday, October 28 from 4-7pm, and it is SOOOO much fun for kids and grown-ups alike!  Please help us have a successful event by signing up to help.  If every parent signs up for just one shift, we will have plenty of volunteers to make the event  a success.  Thank you!

Midsummer PTO Update

Happy Mid-Summer Greetings Agnor Hurt Families!
We hope that you are enjoying an amazing fun filled summer and finding a bit of time for some rest and relaxation as well.  Our PTO Board has begun its work to ensure that we have a wonderful year ahead of us filled with events designed around our mission: To promote an active and open partnership within the Agnor-Hurt Elementary School community in order to inspire students to fully realize their academic, social and emotional potential while nurturing their cultural and community awareness.
Meet the 2017-18 Board Members:
President- Sheila Chrobak
Vice President- Susan Scott
Treasurer- Meredith Curs
Secretary- Dana Washington
Communications Chair- Safia Wentling
Parent Council Representative- Sharon Fix

But our PTO Board isn’t complete!  We are looking to expand our board in order to have a greater reach across our entire Agnor Hurt community.  Would you consider participating as a Grade Level Representative (ensuring that teachers and families in your “wing” of the school are able to actively engage in the PTO)?  Or how about as Fundraising Coordinator (coordinating all of our traditional and new fundraisers)? What about Volunteer Coordinator (making sure that parents have a way to share their special interests and skills within all our volunteer opportunities)?  Want to find out more about how you can participate?  Email Sheila Chrobak at agnorhurtpto@gmail.com
We have a such a wonderfully diverse community with so many varied skill sets and talents and there is truly something for everyone when it comes to PTO participation.  Fill our our General Volunteer Form and we will look forward to connecting with you.  Keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities throughout the year and please don’t hesitate to reach out to us to share how you would like to contribute.  Many hands make for lighter work and a truly active and engaged community!

5th Grade Father-Daughter/Mother-Son Dance

The 5th Grade will be having a Father-Daughter/Mother-Son Dance in the evening of Friday May 19th. This is a free event for all 5th graders. If your parent is unavailable, another adult may be your chaperone. This is not a drop-off event. This will take place 7:00-8:30 pm in the Cafeteria. Dress Up & Join the Fun!

Parent volunteers are needed for this event!  If you can help plan decorations, food or music, set up on the night of the event, or clean up on the night of the event, please contact the PTO.  Thank you!

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up April 24-28.

On Wednesday, April 26, we will be preparing lunch for the teachers and staff.  The lunch will be entirely donated by parents, so please sign up to bring something if you can.  If you can come for an hour and help with set-up or clean-up, that would be greatly appreciated!

The PTO will be hosting a breakfast on Monday, April 24 and we could use some help with set up and clean up that morning.  We will also be treating the staff to a morning coffee treat to end the week on Friday, April 27.  If you are interested in helping with the breakfast or coffee morning, please let the PTO know at agnorhurtpto@gmail.com.

Please take a moment that week to let your child’s teacher know how much you appreciate them!
