The PTO Needs Your Input!

Our AHES PTO needs YOU and your brilliant ideas!  We are ready to kick off the 2nd half of our 2018-19 school year and it’s time for a PTO Reboot.  In a school as large as AHES, it is vital for both parents and teachers to be active participants in our PTO in order to reach our mission and purpose and to maintain a sustainable organization that continues to reach new goals for our community.  Over the past couple of years, we’ve worked to make changes in our meeting schedule, communication modalities, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising efforts in order to meet the various needs of our community.  Now it’s time for us to begin to think toward the future of the PTO and you’re invited to help us out.

We have a number of PTO Board members and committed PTO volunteers who will be stepping out of their roles next year as their children move on to middle school and others who are ready to step back a bit and make room for new, fresh ideas for the PTO.  Our existing Board is looking for ways to engage our community more in the happenings at AHES and in the Albemarle County Public Schools, encourage more volunteer involvement in our events and fundraising, and figure out which activities we should continue with and where we might want to make changes or shifts.  Our next PTO meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29 at 7pm in the AHES library.  Please mark your calendar now and plan on attending and participating in this very important meeting that will help lead the way into the end of this school year and beyond.  Give us an hour of your time and connect with our amazing community!

International Night

Friday, March 24, 6:30pm

Agnor-Hurt’s International Night extravaganza is an evening of dance that showcases various dances that our Agnor-Hurt students have learned in their rhythms unit.  The evening demonstrates the spirit of dance from around the world and the various cultures that attend our school.  The evening will be a joyful time performing dances from other countries as well as a few surprises along the way!

A cultural cuisine pot-luck dinner will round out this community- building event.  (Please plan to bring a dish to share.)

It is an evening for our entire Agnor-Hurt family!  The event is one of our most popular events for the year.  To our Agnor-Hurt students, if you would like to participate in the event, see one of the PE teachers for a permission form, or call the school for further details (973-5211).  We hope to see all of you here on Friday evening!

December News Bits

The PTO meeting scheduled for December 6 has been cancelled.  Please plan on joining us for the January 10 meeting at 6:30pm.

Thank you to all the families who came out for the Zoe’s Kitchen fundraiser night!  The kids really enjoyed seeing their friends and teachers out on the town.

The PTO would like to thank Sheila Chrobak and Michele Ramos for organizing a successful Barnes & Noble fundraiser!  Thank you as well to the parents and staff members who helped with the wish list table, activities, and storytimes.

October 4 PTO Meeting

All parents/guardians and staff are encouraged to attend the PTO meeting on October 4.  This will be a special meeting, with the first half hour devoted to PTO business, and the second half devoted to information about the possible Woodbrook expansion and the Bond Referendum.  A representative from ACPS and a representative from the School Board will attend to provide information and answer questions.  We hope to see you there!

Fall Festival – November 4!

Our Fall Festival will be held on Friday, November 4th 5:30pm-8:00pm (food will be available at 5:30; games and activities begin at 6:00).

We have a great committee assembled to help make this a great event.  To make the Fall Festival successful requires a lot of volunteers.  A flyer will be coming home with your child outlining the areas in which you can help.   If you are able to assist, please return the flyer to school.   You may also view and sign up for a specific area at our online sign up.
Please contact Rachael Boston at rachaelboston@yahoo.com or agnorhurtpto@gmail.com for any questions.

Back to School Nights

Back-to-School Nights for parents are as follows:

September 6th – 6:30 – 8:00
Kindergarten through 2nd grade
McKenzie/Mullinex (Multi Age Class)
Mohr/Wood(Multi Age Class)

 September 20th – 6:30 – 8:00
3rd through 5th grades
Thornton/Craft (Multi Age Class)
Redieske/Orshoski (Multi Age Class)

If you haven’t attended a Back to School Night before, here’s a quick introduction:  It usually begins in the cafeteria, where Mrs. Castner introduces the staff and gives some information about the school.  Then you go to your child’s classroom, where the teacher tells you about the curriculum and gives you a chance to ask questions.

Children are welcome to attend Back to School Night, but it’s really geared toward parents (not too interesting for the kids).
